Ashfield Infants take Second place at Dodgeball competition!Thursday 10th October
ST PATRICK’S ARE OUR DODGEBALL CHAMPIONS AFTER DRAMATIC SHOOTOUT!
An amazingly exciting and vibrant Key Stage 1 Dodgeball competition was won in dramatic fashion by St Patrick’s as they beat holders Beckstone in a shootout en route to beating Ashfield in the final.
With 144 children taking part and with 17 year 8 sports leaders officiating the sports hall at St Joseph’s was very definitely a hive of activity as the 18 teams from 10 Schools took to the courts on Tuesday the 15th of October.
The event was the first on a very busy calendar for the Sports Leaders from St Joseph’s and they performed admirably Umpiring, escorting teams and helping Mr Wise, our Sports Development Officer, to keep things ticking over.
The format of the competition was 4 groups of teams playing each other to determine a group winner who would then go through to the semi finals to eventually find a winning team and after 32 pulsating, high energy matches it was St Patrick’s, Ashfield, Derwent Vale and Seaton Academy who topped their respective groups to make the semi-finals.
St Patrick’s, who had managed to come through a 3 team group tie AND a “last man standing” shootout against Beckstone, now had the bit between their collective teeth and were in dominant form as they beat Seaton Academy in the semi final and, an equally impressive Ashfield team came through their match against Derwent Vale to make the final.
The final was a very tense affair until the last minute when St Patrick’s managed to get the entire Ashfield team “out” to become champions.
An equally entertaining 3rd and 4th place match went down to another “last man standing” situation as Derwent Vale beat Seaton Academy to claim 3rd place.
Organiser and Sports Development Officer David Wise commented; “The Dodgeball event is always a very lively affair and it is a great start to our competition calendar”. “The place was absolutely buzzing and we hope the children had a great time”. “It’s a bit of a baptism of fire for our new leaders but it’s a good way to get them into their year of leading and I am very hopeful that they will learn many new skills over the next few months”.
